| Most back pain sufferers have a degenerative process that develops over time. Repetitive damage to the muscles, vertebrae and discs occurs either by small microtraumas or actual injuries producing joint muscle spasms. The joint stiffness leads to a sustained pressure in discs, leading to disc dehydration and degenerative disc disease. These discs crack and tear, producing bulges or herniations. Spinal traction and inversion tables help temporarily with pain, but don't get to the cause of the problem. These methods do not produce a vacuum effect because the muscles that surround the joints are very strong. When an attempt to stretch the joint is sensed, the muscles contract too much. Studies on spinal traction show that the disc pressure actually goes up rather than down during therapy. VAX-D, short for Vertebral Axial Decompression is a non-surgical, mechanized decompression system that was developed by a leading physician in Canada. Clinical research has shown outstanding results, even when surgery and other types of treatment have failed. VAX-D has proven to be 70% effective in the treatment of herniated discs, degenerated discs, facet syndrome and sciatica. VAX-D is traction like treatment that stretches the spine, reducing pressure on the spinal disks. This reduction in pressure is meant to reduce chronic low back pain. AX-D creates a vacuum effect within the disc drawing the herniation back into place and drawing fluids back into the disc so they can heal. Over time, treatment leads to rehydrating and drawing of any bulges or herniations back into place. VAX-D not only stops the pain but also can also significantly improve the mobility of one’s back. At least 20 once-a-day sessions are typically recommended to relieve disc-related pain, followed by maintenance sessions. As many as 40 or more sessions may be required to achieve pain relief. For a VAX-D treatment, you lie on your abdomen on a computerized split table with a harness around your hips, and your arms extending over your head, hands grasping two handgrips. As the table slowly separates in two, punctuated by pauses, your back is stretched. If you are uncomfortable, letting go of the handgrips releases the tension on your back. A VAX-D session lasts about 30 minutes. VAX-D can relieve the pain associated with herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, posterior facet syndrome and radicular (nerve root/leg) pain. Now, specialists and primary care physicians can effectively manage acute and chronic low back problems conservatively and effectively in their own offices. Patients can avoid the costly and time-consuming pain reliever treatments and non-specific treatments like bed-rest, physical therapy, injections, and others. VAX-D therapy is a form of traction that is widely promoted for treatment of back pain and radiculopathy secondary to degenerated and herniated lumbar disks. Contraindications include infection, neoplasm, osteoporosis, bilateral pars interarticularis defect, grade 2 or higher spondylolisthesis, fractures, spinal instrumentation, and cauda equina syndrome. Extruded lumbar disks are not excluded from treatment. This type of treatment is not recommended for people with degenerative or unstable spine conditions, nor for those who have rotator cuff or shoulder problems. VAX-D should be used with extreme caution in patients with large disk protrusions and that VAX-D should be used only in centers that have ready access to surgery, in the event of deterioration. medgrip.com |
